The typical tuning takes 1 to 1 1/2 hours depending on condition of instrument. Pianos that have been regularly serviced can be tuned in about an hour. There are four steps for every tuning. First the needs of the piano are assessed. Questions of what other instruments are played and how often the piano is played are answered. Secondly, the condition of the existing tuning is assessed. Is the piano close or is it really out of tune? This is followed by setting the pitch of the piano to ensure proper sound. Finally, the unisions are tuned which completes the tuning.
